Wattle had reached out to the Friends of Bats and Bushcare Inc. for a guided tour in the flying-fox camp. On November 1 we gathered in Yarra Bend Park and watched the sunset fly out together.
Wattle encourages its participants to connect to their local area through volunteering opportunities. They know the area well, as they organise regular working bees along the Birrarung. But for some participants it was the first time seeing the flying-foxes, particularly during fly-out.
We invited author Deborah Ladd as well, to talk about her recently published illustrated children’s book on a little flying-fox pup who finds their way home to the roost in Yarra Bend Park.
It was great working with Wattle, and seeing how volunteer communities active in the area support each other.
Thanks to Wattle for their support of the Friends of Bats and Bushcare.
